The Department of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland, organised a sensitisation programme on “Development of Floriculture in Mission Mode” under Development (SRE) 2025-26 at the Directorate of Horticulture, Kohima, on July 30.
The programme aimed to familiarise selected beneficiaries with the mission’s objectives, implementation strategy and technical aspects. The initiative seeks to promote commercial cultivation of Anthurium and Lilium, increase farmers’ income through high-value floriculture, create employment and develop a sustainable, market-oriented floriculture sector in Nagaland.
The project will provide beneficiaries with technical guidance and handholding support for three years to establish and sustain floriculture units, along with a buy-back policy.
Officials, representatives of service provider M/s North Bengal Floritech and beneficiaries from Kohima, Chümoukedima, Dimapur and Niuland attended the programme.
Director of Horticulture Ayieno Hibo highlighted the department’s commitment to promoting floriculture as a viable enterprise.
Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Horticulture, Akumla Chuba, IAS, emphasised the sector’s potential to generate sustainable livelihoods and encouraged beneficiaries to adopt scientific cultivation practices.
Experts from North Bengal Floritech provided technical orientation on Anthurium and Lilium cultivation, management and post-planting care. Beneficiaries also raised queries during an interaction session.
The programme concluded with closing remarks by Deputy Director Neisetuonuo Debbie.
