Minister for Power & Parliamentary Affairs KG Kenye on Thursday inaugurated the 2.4 MW Duilumroi Hydro Electric Project at Poilwa village under Peren District. The project, built at a cost of Rs 40.29 crore under the State Plan, is expected to serve as a model for small hydro development in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration, Kenye lauded the Power Department officials “from top to bottom” as well as the contractors for completing the project within a short span of time. He also acknowledged the cooperation and support extended by Poilwa and Heunambe villages, calling their contribution “instrumental” in the project’s successful completion.

Kenye further extended gratitude to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, for ensuring consistent financial support to the project through the Planning and Finance Department.

Power Secretary Asangla, IAS, stressed on the importance of protecting the catchment area and maintaining forest cover to ensure the project’s long-term sustainability. She urged the department to coordinate with neighbouring villages for afforestation efforts and to manage the facility effectively as a model small hydro project.

Chief Engineer (Transmission & Generation), Er Kasho Chishi, reported that construction began in April 2021 with a 36-month completion target. The project was technically commissioned on December 11, 2024. Thanking all stakeholders, Chishi said the timely and quality execution was made possible due to smooth fund flow and effective coordination between the government, contractors, and local communities.

Retired Chief Engineer (T&G), Er Penrithung Yanthan, hailed the project as a “phenomenal achievement” for the Department of Power. He praised the Generation and Hydel Divisions, as well as the Chief Engineer’s team, for overcoming challenges and completing the project in record time.

The inaugural function was chaired by Chief Engineer (D&R), Er Nitovi A Wotsa. Pastor Kwedigwambe Zeliang of Baptist Church Poilwa delivered the invocation prayer. A technical report was presented by Addl Chief Engineer (Civil), Er Visakho Therie, and the event concluded with a vote of thanks by Addl Chief Engineer (D&R), Er R Lobosang Jamir.
