The Nagaland government has increased the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) allocation for legislators by Rs 20 lakh, with the additional funds to be used specifically to promote micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in their respective constituencies.
Making a statement under Rule 55 and Rule 54 during the Eighth Session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Thursday, Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs KG Kenye said the increase was announced by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio during an earlier discussion on the role of MSMEs in improving Nagaland’s economy.
Kenye said the House had held a constructive debate on the challenges facing the MSME sector, during which several issues affecting its growth were highlighted.
He stated that the additional allocation would be utilized exclusively to support MSME activities within legislators’ constituencies.
According to Kenye, the enhancement of the LADP fund could help address one of the key challenges faced by the MSME sector – the lack of adequate funding – and would particularly benefit people in rural areas.
