In view of the forthcoming Municipal and Town Council Elections in the State, the Labour Commissioner, as empowered under Section 10(2) and 11(3) of the Nagaland Shop & Establishment Act, 1986, and under Section 80(1) of the Factories Act, 1948, has declared 26 June 2024 as a paid holiday for all workers engaged in commercial and industrial establishments in the State of Nagaland to facilitate the exercise of their franchise.

Hence, all employers and occupiers of commercial and industrial establishments in the State have been directed to pay wages at a rate equal to the daily average of the worker’s total full-time earnings for the day for which the paid leave is declared. No deductions whatsoever shall be made from the wages of any workers falling under the specified category, the State Labuor Commissioner informed.
