Mokokchung, March 1 (MTNews): Two of Nagaland’s legislators were seen in a photo holding carry bags, apparently black colored single use plastic bags that are banned by the government of Nagaland, after purchasing locally produced fruits at a roadside market shed in Tuophema village, Kohima. Jacob Zhimomi, Nagaland’s Minister for PHED, shared the photo on his Twitter handle on Tuesday, which was later retweeted by H. Khehovi, Advisor for Tourism, Art and Culture, Nagaland, who was also seen in the photo alongside Zhimomi. They were en route to Suruhoto in Zunheboto, as per information tweeted by Zhimomi, for a party meeting. Both legislators belong to the BJP. It may be mentioned that the Government of Nagaland has since June 2019 announced total ban on all single use plastics to combat plastic pollution.

“It’s very encouraging to see our leaders not only support local, but also making every possible effort to promote local,” a follower of Zhimomi on Twitter commented, while another said, “It’s not only about selling a few kilos of local products but it will definitely boost the morale of local sellers.”
