The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) organised its Orientation Programme 2026 at the Central Auditorium on September 10, welcoming newly enrolled students and introducing them to university life, academic opportunities and their responsibilities as young learners.
Nagaland Higher Education and Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along attended the programme as the Chief Guest and encouraged students to approach their academic journey with commitment, confidence and a strong sense of character.
Addressing the gathering, Along highlighted the role of education in shaping individuals and society and urged students to use their time at the university meaningfully. He also stressed the importance of young people preparing themselves to contribute positively to society and the future of the region and the country.
Describing USTM as a centre of “traditions, oneness and unity”, Along said, “The whole Northeast is at USTM.”
USTM Chancellor and ERDF Chairman Mahbubul Hoque delivered the welcome address, extending greetings to the Minister and the newly enrolled students. The orientation programme also familiarised students with the university’s values and opportunities while emphasising holistic development alongside academic excellence.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by USTM Vice Chancellor Prof. G. D. Sharma.
Established in 2011, USTM is the first state private university in Science and Technology in Northeast India. The university received an ‘A Grade’ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its first assessment cycle in 2021. It focuses on teaching, research, innovation and community engagement, with emphasis on inclusivity, sustainability and regional development.
