Member of Parliament to Lok Sabha from Nagaland, S. Supongmeren Jamir, has called for prompt intervention by the State Government regarding the reported detainment of 45 Naga youths in connection with a call centre scam in Chandigarh.

According to a press release from the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), Jamir raised the issue with the Nagaland Chief Minister, Home Minister, and Chief Secretary, expressing concern over the plight of the detained youths and urging their prompt intervention in the matter.

It may be noted that Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, according to an earlier update from the State DIPR, discussed the issue of the detention of 45 Naga youths in the Mohali Jail, Punjab, with Advocate General K. N. Balgopal in New Delhi on June 22.

In the meeting, he directed the Advocate General to personally intervene in the case and asked him to depute his team to take “urgent necessary actions for the release of the innocent Naga youths who are falsely implicated in this case.”

Rio also directed the Resident Commissioner in charge of Nagaland House, New Delhi, to stay in touch with the families of the detained Naga youths and extend all necessary help required for them.

The parents and relatives of the Naga youths have been requested to contact the Government of Nagaland to provide all information and cooperation needed to secure the release of these innocent Naga youths, the DIPR added.
