The Government of Nagaland has officially notified 19 local languages and dialects spoken in the State for the purpose of engaging Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) under the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India.
According to a notification issued by the Home Department on December 16, the identification of local languages is in accordance with the requirements of the Department of Posts for certifying language proficiency among GDS applicants.
The languages and dialects notified include Angami, Ao, Chang, Chakhesang, Konyak, Khiamniungan, Lotha, Phom, Pochury, Rengma, Sumi, Sangtam, Tikhir, Yimkhiung, Zeliang, Garo, Mikir, Kuki and Kachari.
For the purpose of certifying proficiency in the notified languages and dialects, the Deputy Commissioners of the respective districts have been designated as the certifying authorities within their jurisdictions.
The notification will come into force from the date of its publication in the Nagaland Gazette.
