The PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) and Mission for Aatmanirbharata in Pulses were formally launched across Nagaland on 11th October 2025, with events held in multiple districts including Dimapur, Kohima, Chumoukedima, Niuland, Wokha, Tseminyu, and Phek.

The programmes were organized by respective District Administrations in collaboration with the Agriculture and allied departments and were connected via live webcast to the national launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the National Agricultural Science Complex, Pusa, New Delhi.

In Dimapur, the launching programme at the DC’s Conference Hall was chaired by Leah, Agriculture Officer, and graced by Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, NCS, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur. Dr. Chang emphasized, “India, as a whole, is an agriculture-based country, and a large part of Nagaland’s economy depends on agricultural projects.” He urged participants to disseminate information on the new schemes to ensure their benefits reach a wider section of the population. Rokovotsolie Peseyie, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, highlighted that PMDDKY consolidates 36 existing programmes across 11 ministries, focusing on 100 low-productivity districts and aims to boost farmer income through technology, irrigation, training, and market linkages.

Chumoukedima witnessed two-way live webcasting of the launch, with District Agriculture Officer Moianla Pongen detailing the scheme’s objectives, including improved agricultural productivity, irrigation infrastructure, crop diversification, and financial assistance through NABARD. The six-year Mission for Aatmanirbharata in Pulses focuses on self-sufficiency in pulse production and improving soil health.

In Kohima, the programme at the Directorate Conference Hall and DC’s Conference Hall included keynote addresses by V. Shanshank Shekhar, IAS, Agriculture Production Commissioner, and Viketuno Chusi, SDAO, emphasizing sustainable farming practices and holistic farmer development. The event was attended by officials from all agriculture and allied departments.

Similar programmes were held in Niuland, Wokha, Tseminyu, and Phek, where district officials highlighted the objectives of PMDDKY and the Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission. Participants observed the live webcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating projects worth over Rs 42,000 crore, including more than 1,100 initiatives under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Food Processing sectors.

The coordinated launch across Nagaland underscored the state’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity, achieving self-reliance in pulses, and improving farmers’ income through modern technology and sustainable practices. (With DIPR inputs)
