Nagaland Police has issued a public advisory urging users and administrators of social media platforms to exercise caution while posting and sharing content online, warning that strict legal action will be taken against those spreading unlawful or misleading material.
According to a press release issued by the Director General of Police, Nagaland, Kohima, group administrators and members of all social media platforms are advised to exercise caution while posting, sharing, or forwarding messages, images, videos, or other content.
The advisory stated that any post, message or material found to be “offensive, misleading, unlawful, or likely to disturb public peace and tranquility” will invite legal consequences. It further cautioned that “the concerned individual and group administrator will be held liable and appropriate legal action shall be initiated against them as per the provisions of law.”
“Group administrators are responsible for monitoring the content shared within their groups,” the release stated, adding that users must verify information before sharing and refrain from posting content that may incite hatred, violence, panic, or public disorder.
The police emphasised that the advisory is intended to ensure responsible digital behaviour and maintain peace and harmony in society, particularly in the context of rising circulation of unverified information on social media platforms.
