Collaboration aims to strengthen cybercrime response, data analytics and technology-driven policing

The Nagaland Police and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Nagaland signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 10 at the Police Headquarters, Kohima, to collaborate on the design and development of a Management Information System (MIS), marking a significant step towards integrating technology and innovation in policing.

The MoU establishes a collaborative framework whereby the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), NIT Nagaland, will provide technical consultation, design, and development of the MIS as per the requirements of Nagaland Police. The partnership also aims to foster research, innovation, and capacity building.

The MoU was signed by Sandeep M. Tamgadge, IPS, Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order), on behalf of Nagaland Police, and Dr Manoj E Prabhakar, Registrar, NIT Nagaland.

Senior police officials and faculty members, including Dr Nagaraju Baydeti, Assistant Professor, Department of CSE, and Dr Pankaj Kumar, Assistant Professor and HoD, Department of Civil Engineering, were present at the ceremony.

Speaking on the occassion, Rupin Sharma, IPS, Director General of Police, said the collaboration reflects Nagaland Police’s commitment to technology-driven policing.

“Such collaboration will help to address emerging challenges in areas like cybercrime, digital forensics, beat patrolling, and data analytics. It will inspire and enable young police officers to adopt and integrate technology in policing, fostering a culture of innovation and digital evidence-based law enforcement,” he said.

As part of the collaboration, Nagaland Police will act as the client, providing the requirements and functional needs for the MIS, as well as facilitating access to relevant data and administrative support for deployment within the department. The contribution of NIT Nagaland will be formally acknowledged in official communications.

Dr Nagaraju Baydeti, Assistant Professor, Department of CSE, NIT Nagaland, highlighted the institute’s enthusiasm to contribute its expertise.

“We are eager to support system design, development, data analysis, testing, training and consultancy as a voluntary academic contribution,” he said. He added that this partnership would also provide valuable exposer and practical learning opportunities for students and researcher at NIT Nagaland.

This MoU shall come into effect on the date of signing and shall remain valid of the period of 3 years.
