Kohima, 4 July (MTNews): The fortnightly report related to crime detection, dated 15 – 30 June 2023 of Nagaland Police shows significant crime activities and achievements. Under the Arms Act, three cases were registered and 5 arrested in Dimapur where individuals were found to be in possession of firearms in violation of the law. The authorities seized two .32 pistols with magazines, along with twelve live rounds of .32 ammunition. Additionally, one 7.62 pistol with a magazine and seven rounds of 7.62 ammunition were confiscated. Two .22 pistols with magazines were also recovered.

 

Prioritizing “War on Drugs” and making progress to reduce drug activity, nine cases were registered during the same period in Dimapur, Mokokchung, Wokha, Zunheboto, Phek and Longleng under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The authorities also recovered and seized 553.65 grams of brown sugar, a form of illicit drug derived from opium. Other substances seized included 400 tablets of SP capsules and 15 units of Codeine, a narcotic pain-relieving medication. Seventeen individuals were arrested in connection with these NDPS cases.

 

The report also documented six cases of extortion. These cases involved the unlawful acquisition of money. The recovered items related to these cases included Rs 1500/- in cash and one Non-Local ID, which had the name “NSCN/GPRN.” Seven individuals were arrested in connection with extortion cases in Dimapur, Kohima and Mon including members associated with NSCN-K factions and four civilians.
