The Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC) has strongly condemned recent statements made by BJP MLA and Advisor, Imkong L Imchen, regarding the alleged sponsorship of the Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra by the Congress. In a statement, the NPYC termed Imchen’s claims as “totally baseless and blatantly irresponsible,” asserting that such “outright falsehood is not only misleading but is an insult to the intelligence of the Naga people.”
The NPYC went on to describe Imchen as “a political chameleon,” accusing him of attempting to “divert attention from the BJP’s flawed policies and controversial Hindutva stance” by making false allegations against the Congress Party. They added, “Imchen’s attempts to fool the Nagas by creating false narratives will not succeed,” and called on him to provide “concrete evidence” to support his claims or retract his “openly defamatory remarks immediately.”
The NPYC reiterated the Congress Party’s longstanding commitment to secularism and unity, stating, “The Congress Party has always stood for secularism and unity, respecting the rich diversity of cultures and traditions in India, including those of Nagaland.” According to the NPYC, the Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra is an agenda being pursued by elements within the BJP, which reflects their “obsession with imposing their ideology on the entire nation.
In their statement, the NPYC also highlighted the BJP’s divisive policies, warning that the BJP and its affiliates are trying to impose “majoritarian ideas” on Nagaland, which is “culturally rich and diverse.” They added that instead of “peddling lies,” Imchen and his party should focus on delivering on their promises to the people and addressing the pressing concerns of unemployment, corruption and development in the state.
The NPYC affirmed its commitment to protect the rights and interests of the Naga People stating, “we will not allow our rich traditions and values to be eroded by the communal and divisive agenda of the BJP.”
