Mokokchung, June 9 (MTNews): To encourage States and Union Territories to improve their performance and work towards establishing a proper food safety ecosystem in their jurisdiction, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) released its fourth State Food Safety Index award on Tuesday on the occasion of World Food Safety Day.

 

Goa topped the ranking among the smaller states followed by Manipur while Nagaland ranked 6th in the State Food Safety Index. Tamil Nadu topped the list among the larger states, followed by Gujarat and Maharashtra.

 

The State Food Safety Index (SFSI) measures the performance of States on the basis of five parameters prescribed by the Health Ministry: Human Resources and Institutional Data, Compliance, Food Testing- Infrastructure and Surveillance, Training and Capacity Building and Consumer Empowerment.
