Nagaland has received Rs 29,26,115 from the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) in the financial year 2025 to 2026 to strengthen biodiversity governance and implementation of the Biological Diversity Act at the grassroots level.
According to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the NBA released a total of Rs 6,09,96,742 to State Biodiversity Boards and Union Territory Biodiversity Councils based on proposals received during the year. Nagaland was sanctioned Rs 21,76,515 under Grant in Aid General and Rs 7,49,600 under Grant in Aid NBF Administration.
The financial support aims to improve the functioning of Biodiversity Management Committees, enhance the quality of People’s Biodiversity Registers and accelerate implementation of Access and Benefit Sharing mechanisms.
Across the country, 2,76,653 Biodiversity Management Committees have been constituted and 2,72,648 People’s Biodiversity Registers prepared. Funds have also been released for capacity building, awareness programmes, strengthening of committees and preparation and updation of biodiversity registers.
