Nagaland has recorded the highest growth in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection among all Indian states, with a 37% increase for the financial year 2025-26 up to December 2025 compared to the same period last year. In contrast, the all-India GST collection grew by an average of 6.8% during the same period. This was informed in a press release issued by the Commissioner, Goods and Services Tax, Dimapur.

Despite the slashing of GST rates in more than 375 goods and services in the recent GST 2.0 reforms introduced in September 2025, rising consumption appears to have led to a boost in tax collection.

Nagaland has consistently performed well in GST revenue growth in recent periods, benefiting from the destination-based nature of GST that channels more tax revenue to consumer states with limited industrial bases.

Officials attribute the growth to efforts in educating taxpayers and the business community about the importance of timely and ethical tax practices, as well as strengthened enforcement measures that have improved compliance. The digitalization of tax processes has also enhanced transparency and streamlined tax filing, further encouraging adherence to GST norms.

The strong growth in GST revenue strengthens Nagaland’s fiscal capacity and underscores the effectiveness of the state’s tax administration and compliance measures.
