Kohima, 8 May (MTNews): Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland State Branch (IRCSNB) commemorated World Red Cross Day with Niketu Iralu, a Member of Initiatives of Change (India), as the Special Guest. The event, held in honor of the 196th Birth Anniversary of founder Jean Henry Dunant, took place under the theme “Keeping Humanity Alive” at the Red Cross Conference Hall in Kohima on 8 May 2024.
During his address, Iralu emphasized the official global theme of the Red Cross Society, “Humanity to Peace,” and highlighted the 2024 theme, “Keeping Humanity Alive.” He emphasized the crucial role of humanity in achieving peace and stressed the need to address issues that lead to conflict and violence.
Iralu advocated for a global sense of responsibility, echoing Henry Dunant’s vision for the Red Cross Movement to address not only physical suffering but also heal emotional wounds and societal divisions. He warned against the dangers posed by population growth, climate change, and resource depletion, emphasizing the urgency of collective action and accountability.
Addressing the current state of society, Iralu urged individuals to fulfill their duties with excellence and integrity, regardless of their religious or cultural background, to prevent societal collapse.
R Rose Chakesang, a Member of the Managing Committee of IRCSN, reiterated the importance of compassion, kindness, and support for the needy, emphasizing the preservation of core humanitarian values.
Akhale V Khamo, General Secretary of IRCSN, highlighted the contributions of Jean Henry Dunant and conveyed greetings from dignitaries including the Governor, Chief Minister, and Indian Red Cross, New Delhi.
The event also recognized the presence of notable figures such as Khyomo Lotha, founder of Nagaland State Red Cross Society, former minister Nicky Kire, and other members of the Managing Committee and Patrons of IRCSN.
To mark the occasion, students from G Rio School and Zoe Group presented a special song, while the program was presided over by Vice President of IRCSN, Helena Yepthomi. Associate Pastor Zajamo Odyuo delivered the invocation and blessing, and Jonas Yanthan conveyed the word of gratitude.
