The Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav, chaired a review meeting on monsoon preparedness at Naga Bhavan Conference Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima on May 4.
During the meeting, Abhijit Sinha presented a detailed overview of the 2026 monsoon outlook. It was noted that while India may experience below-normal rainfall due to likely El Niño conditions, Nagaland is expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall with intense and uneven distribution.
The presentation outlined key risks, including flash floods, landslides and erratic rainfall. Departments shared district-wise preparedness plans, including the establishment of control rooms, deployment of machinery and identification of vulnerable road stretches.
The Public Works Department stated that national highways and major roads are being closely monitored, with alternative routes identified to maintain connectivity during emergencies. Maintenance works such as drainage clearance, slope stabilization and pre-positioning of resources are underway.
The District Administration Kohima also presented its action plan, including formation of task forces, traffic management, medical preparedness and ensuring adequate supply of essential commodities.
The Governor stressed coordinated efforts, timely emergency response and effective public communication, directing all agencies to remain vigilant and minimize disruption during the monsoon season.
