Over 6,400 census functionaries appointed; first phase scheduled from July 1 to 30
The State Level Census Coordination Committee (SLCCC), chaired by Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, reviewed preparations for the first phase of Census 2027 at a meeting held at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat on Tuesday.
Director of Census Operations and Director of Citizen Registration for Nagaland, Dr. Keneilhoutuolie Miachieo, briefed the committee on preparations for the House Listing Operation (HLO), scheduled from July 1 to 30.
He informed the committee that 6,461 census functionaries have been appointed across the state. Training of census personnel is either complete or underway. While 130 Field Trainers have already been trained, training for 1,010 Supervisors and 5,124 Enumerators will be conducted from June 8 to 25.
The committee also reviewed awareness and publicity plans for the Self-Enumeration (SE) and HLO phases. The campaign will include radio programmes, advertisements in print and electronic media, and social media outreach. Messages from the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Home Commissioner are proposed to be aired through All India Radio to encourage public participation.
Publicity efforts will be coordinated through the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) and the Press Information Bureau (PIB). Promotional videos are also proposed to be disseminated through YouTube and Instagram to strengthen public awareness.
Dr. Miachieo further briefed the committee on the distribution of census materials, postal arrangements, manpower deployment, logistics, vehicle requirements and monitoring mechanisms for the smooth conduct of census operations.
The presentation highlighted progress made on decisions taken during the previous SLCCC meeting, including notification of the HLO schedule, release of funds to districts, appointment of census functionaries and training initiatives. Deputy Commissioners from across the state attended the meeting through video conferencing.
