The indefinite agitation by the Nagaland RMSA-2016 batch teachers entered its fourth day on Thursday, with no breakthrough achieved despite a formal meeting with government officials at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat in Kohima.

The teachers, under the banner of the Nagaland RMSA Teachers’ Association-2016 (NRMSATA-2016), are demanding “equal work, equal pay” and scale pay parity with their RMSA 2010–13 batch counterparts. Thursday’s dialogue was the first official engagement between the agitating teachers and government representatives since the protest began on September 8.

According to the association, the meeting ended in disappointment, as no concrete resolution was reached. Government officials reportedly appealed to the teachers to withdraw their agitation, offering a written assurance that action would follow once the Supreme Court delivers a verdict on the review petition filed by the state government.

On August 14, the Nagaland government reportedly filed a review petition in the Supreme Court challenging an earlier court order that had upheld the RMSA teachers’ case.

However, the association pointed out that no notification or stay order has been received so far, meaning the 2022 High Court judgment in their favour remains valid.

The tripartite meeting included officials from the School Education Department, members of the All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA), and NRMSATA-2016 representatives.

Despite the extended discussions, the association has resolved to continue its protest, which was relocated from the Directorate of School Education to the Civil Secretariat on September 11, marking an escalation in their agitation.
