The Nagaland Senior Men’s Inter-District Tournament 2025 witnessed two dominant performances on Wednesday, as Dimapur and Wokha registered emphatic victories in their respective matches.
At Sovima Cricket Ground, Dimapur outclassed Tseminyu with a commanding 8-wicket win, thanks to a clinical bowling display from Hopongkyu Sangtam and Tahmeed, who dismantled Tseminyu’s batting lineup.
Over at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Wokha showcased their prowess with both bat and ball, securing a comfortable six-wicket victory over Mokokchung. Led by an exceptional spell from Hayithung Ezung, Wokha restricted their opponents to a modest total before chasing down the target with ease.
Dimapur beats Tseminyu by 8 wickets
Dimapur asserted their dominance over Tseminyu in a Group-A match, securing a resounding 8-wicket victory at Sovima Cricket Ground. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Tseminyu struggled to find their footing against a formidable Dimapur bowling attack. They were bowled out for a modest 78 runs in 27.2 overs, with Kenendi Apon top-scoring with 25 runs off 39 balls.
Dimapur’s bowlers were relentless, with Tahmeed and Player of the Match, Hopongkyu Sangtam, wreaking havoc with four wickets each. Tahmeed finished with figures of 4/18 in 6.2 overs, while Sangtam delivered a superb spell, claiming 4/21 in his 10 overs.
In response, Dimapur chased down the target comfortably, reaching 81/2 in just 9.4 overs. Hem starred with an unbeaten 49 runs off 32 balls, guiding his team to victory with a display of explosive batting. Despite efforts from Tseminyu’s bowlers like Ntsenlo Semp and Kechesin Keppen, who took a wicket each, Dimapur cruised to a convincing win.
Mokokchung loses to Wokha by 6 wickets
In another match, Wokha secured a commanding six-wicket victory over Mokokchung in their Group-B clash at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Dimapur. Mokokchung, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, struggled to build momentum and were bundled out for 115 in 41.2 overs. Despite a patient knock of 40 runs off 95 balls by Nihal Rai, the team failed to form any meaningful partnerships as Wokha’s bowlers kept the pressure on.
Leading the charge with the ball for Wokha was Hayithung Ezung, who delivered an outstanding spell, taking 4/20 in 7 overs. His disciplined bowling tore through Mokokchung’s batting lineup, preventing them from posting a competitive total. Andrew Ropmay also played a crucial supporting role, claiming 2/25 in 5 overs to ensure Mokokchung never got the chance to accelerate.
Chasing 116 for victory, Wokha’s batters approached the target with confidence. C Abemo Kikon contributed 30 runs off 41 balls, while Nchumbemo Humtsoe anchored the innings with an unbeaten 40 off 39 balls. Their efforts ensured Wokha comfortably reached the target in 24 overs, finishing at 116/4.
Hayithung Ezung was named Player of the Match for his 4/20 bowling performance.
