Dmr, Chümou register big wins
Dimapur edged past Niuland in a closely contested battle at Sovima Cricket Ground, while Chumoukedima produced a commanding performance to outclass Mokokchung at Nagaland Cricket Stadium on Saturday in the Nagaland Senior Men’s Inter-District One Day Cricket Tournament 2025.
At Sovima Cricket Ground, Dimapur secured a hard-fought 27-run victory over Niuland. After winning the toss, Dimapur elected to bat first but found themselves struggling to build partnerships. Joshua Ben Ozukum played a resilient knock, scoring 34 runs off 74 balls, while Anirudh Yadav contributed 29 runs off 69 balls. However, Sunil Sharma’s disciplined bowling for Niuland, where he took three wickets for 32 runs in ten overs, restricted Dimapur to a modest total of 110 all out in 37.2 overs.
In response, Niuland failed to capitalize on their bowling efforts as they collapsed to 83 all out in 23.4 overs. Wahid Ali provided some resistance with 26 runs off 46 balls, but Dimapur’s bowling attack proved too strong. Sundram Gupta delivered a match-winning spell, claiming five wickets for 27 runs in nine overs, while Tahmeed supported him well with three wickets for 33 runs in eight overs.
With his outstanding performance with the ball, Sundram Gupta was named Player of the Match, helping Dimapur strengthen their position in the tournament.
Meanwhile, at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Chumoukedima delivered a dominant performance, defeating Mokokchung by nine wickets. Mokokchung, after choosing to bat first, struggled against Chumoukedima’s bowling attack and were dismissed for just 74 runs in 30.4 overs. Amongti Longkumer top-scored for Mokokchung with 16 runs off 32 balls, but his efforts were overshadowed by the disciplined bowling of Imliwati and Jonathan Rongsen. Imliwati claimed three wickets for 13 runs in 6.4 overs, while Jonathan Rongsen picked up three for 17 in his seven-over spell.
Chumoukedima made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 13.3 overs with a commanding batting display. Mughavi Sumi led the charge with an attacking 43 off 40 balls, while Jonathan Rongsen anchored the innings with an unbeaten 33 off 41 balls, guiding his team to a comfortable win. For his all-round brilliance, Jonathan Rongsen was named Player of the Match.
With these results, Dimapur and Chumoukedima continue their strong run in the tournament. As the competition progresses, the intensity is set to rise with teams vying for supremacy in Nagaland’s cricket.
