The Election Commission of India has announced the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in its third phase, with Nagaland among the states scheduled for the nationwide exercise aimed at updating voter lists through door-to-door verification and enhanced stakeholder participation.

According to the Commission, SIR Phase-III will be conducted across 16 states and 3 Union Territories, covering nearly the entire country, with over 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) participating in the process. The exercise will cover approximately 36.73 crore electors nationwide.

For Nagaland, the revision is scheduled to begin on August 5, 2026, with preparation, training and printing activities from August 5 to August 14. House-to-house verification by BLOs will be carried out from August 16 to September 14, followed by rationalization of polling stations and publication of the draft electoral roll by September 20.

The period for filing claims and objections will run from September 20 to October 20, while the notice phase and disposal of claims will continue until November 18. The final electoral roll for Nagaland is scheduled to be published on November 22, 2026.

The Commission said the SIR is a “participative exercise involving all stakeholders including electors, political parties and election officials” and has urged political parties in the state to appoint Booth Level Agents for each polling station to ensure transparency and full participation.

In Nagaland, 2,432 Booth Level Officers and 2,623 Booth Level Agents will be involved in the revision process. The state has 13,56,858 registered electors as per data recorded on May 12, 2026.

The Election Commission stated that the SIR schedule has been aligned with ongoing field activities and census-related work to ensure smooth implementation. It added that the revision process in other states is being carried out in phases, while schedules for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh will be announced separately due to weather and census considerations.

The Commission had earlier completed two phases of SIR covering 13 states and Union Territories, involving over 6.3 lakh BLOs and 9.2 lakh BLAs. With Phase-III, the electoral roll revision exercise is expected to bring uniformity and updated voter records across the country ahead of future elections.
