The program was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, who said that the sensitization initiative aims to create awareness and encourage community participation in adopting solar energy as a sustainable and reliable power source in the state.

The Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Dr. J. Alam, termed Dimapur as a “mini Nagaland” during the launch of the state’s solar energy initiative, emphasizing that success in Dimapur would serve as a model for the rest of the state. “Once Dimapur understands, the whole of Nagaland will understand,” he remarked.

The solar mission, launched on April 14, is a state-level initiative aligned with the central government’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG:MBY). It aims to boost the adoption of residential rooftop solar systems across Nagaland. As part of the scheme, eligible households can benefit from subsidies, receive free smart meters, and access easy bank loans. This initiative is expected to significantly lower electricity bills, offering both an economical and environmentally sustainable energy solution.

The Chief Secretary encouraged every eligible family in Dimapur to register for the scheme, stressing that such opportunities must not be missed. He urged residents to make full use of the available subsidies by registering on the official portal.

In a significant move towards promoting renewable energy, a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the Nagaland Solar Mission was delivered by Additional Chief Engineer (Design & Regulation), Er. R. Lobosang Jamir, during a special awareness session held in Dimapur. The presentation aimed to educate and engage stakeholders on the objectives, implementation strategies, and benefits of the solar initiative under the broader framework of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

Er. Lobosang highlighted the state government’s commitment to accelerating solar energy adoption through targeted subsidies, technical support, and public outreach. He emphasized that the solar mission is being implemented in convergence with the Central Government’s rooftop solar scheme and aims to provide sustainable and cost-effective power to households.

Notably, the program is currently applicable only to residents of the district where it is introduced, with an initial rollout planned in Dimapur. The district-level implementation is expected to serve as a model for eventual state-wide expansion, he added.

The presentation outlined several key aspects of the mission, including substantial central and state subsidies on rooftop solar systems for domestic consumers and the provision of free smart prepaid meters for beneficiaries under the RDSS scheme, which can be registered through pmsuryaghar.gov.in.

Asserting that the scheme provides an opportunity for households to reduce or eliminate their monthly electricity bills, he said that with the push for solar installations and smart metering systems, the department aims to make clean energy accessible to every household in the state. He reiterated their goal of creating a sustainable and inclusive energy ecosystem where no home is left behind.

The session also featured vendor and consumer experiences sharing their benefits, followed by an interactive segment. The program concluded with closing remarks by the Chairperson.

After the program, Dr J Alam, IAS, undertook an official tour of Dimapur to assess ongoing development initiatives, with a special focus on the Nagaland Solar Mission. During his visit, he interacted with faculty and students at the State Institute of Hotel Management, Purana Bazaar B, and later visited the Common Facility Centre in Toluvi. He was accompanied by Er. Namang Sepong Chang, Deputy Secretary to the Chief Secretary.
