Mokokchung, December 15 (MTNews): The 46th edition of the EGC Open Volleyball Tournament 2022 organized by the Evergreen Club, Ungma village got underway with Er. Zalie Neikha, Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports, Govt. of Nagaland gracing the inaugural program as the guest of honour and Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, NLA as the chief host of the tournament at Soyim Aonglenden, Ungma, Mokokchung on Thursday.

 

 

 

Er. Zalie Neikha stated in his inaugural address that Nagaland state has developed considerably in the sports area, highlighting the amount of medals won by the Nagaland team during the recently conducted NE Olympic Games. He stated that the Nagaland team accumulated just 40 medals in the previous NE Olympic Games, but this year the medal tally had nearly doubled. He stated that volleyball, like any team sport, is about teamwork and challenged the Evergreen Club to strive more in the coming years as they approach their golden jubilee.

 

Earlier, Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, NLA and Imtidongba Jamir, Ungma Village Council also spoke at the inaugural function. The oath taking was initiated by Imsutoshi Longkumer, Sports Secretary, EGC.

 

The inaugural match of the tournament was played between Changtongya Volleyball Association and Longterok Senden Ungma where the former won the match with a score line of 25/19 and 25/19.

 

13 teams, namely Longterok Senden Ungma, Changotongya Volleyball Association, Season Star Rogo, Washina Ungma, Evergreen Club Ungma, Yimyu, United Soyim Club, MH-10 Nagaland, Shipu Sungkomen, Longsa Volleyball Team, Nentong Rogo, Sumedem Club, Kubza and Kumlong Sporting Association are participating in the ongoing tournament which is divided into four groups and is being played in a league cum knockout format.
