The St Joseph University Students’ Council has appealed to the Chief Minister of Nagaland for urgent intervention over the deteriorating condition of the road connecting Ikishe Village Gate to the university campus.

A view of the road condition from Ikishe Gate to St. Joseph University.

In a representation submitted to the Chief Minister, the council stated that the road, used daily by thousands of students, faculty, and staff, has become “extremely muddy and slippery” during the rainy season and “excessively dusty” in dry conditions, making commuting both difficult and hazardous.

The council also highlighted safety risks due to the absence of a proper footpath, forcing pedestrians to walk along the main road.

Recalling a commitment made during the university’s first convocation in 2022, the council noted that a road stretch measuring approximately 2,320 feet in length and 14 feet width was constructed and inaugurated later that year. However, it stated that the road has deteriorated rapidly and is now “almost unusable.”

Despite raising the issue with authorities at the university level, the council said no effective action has been taken so far.

The students have urged the government to direct the concerned departments to undertake immediate repair or reconstruction of the road to ensure safety and accessibility.
