Nagaland studies Tripura’s renewable energy model to boost clean energy initiatives

Nagaland is looking to Tripura’s successful renewable energy programmes as it seeks to strengthen the implementation of clean energy initiatives in the state.

A 10-member delegation from the Department of New & Renewable Energy, led by Adviser Er. Picto Shohe, undertook a two-day study visit to Tripura from June 23 to 24 to examine the state’s implementation of renewable energy projects, particularly under the PM-KUSUM Scheme.

The delegation, which included Secretary Linda Solo, Director Er. James Khala and other departmental officials, visited renewable energy installations implemented by the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA), including off-grid solar water pumping systems, solarised agricultural pumps, grid-connected solar photovoltaic power plants, community solar water purification facilities, solar street lighting systems and biogas plants.

The team also interacted with officials and beneficiaries at Sathdubai and Rangacherra Gram Panchayats to understand the implementation of off-grid solar water pumps, solarised irrigation systems and the Green Village initiative.

During the visit, the delegation held discussions with Tripura Minister for Power Ratan Lal Nath and senior officials on renewable energy policies, project implementation, financing mechanisms and opportunities for inter-state collaboration. It also met Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shyamal Das to explore cooperation in renewable energy awareness, research, skill development and capacity-building programmes for the North-East.

According to a DIPR release, the delegation appreciated Tripura’s achievements in sustainable irrigation, clean drinking water, rural electrification and community infrastructure, and its financial and technical support mechanisms for renewable energy projects.

The visit is expected to strengthen cooperation between Nagaland and Tripura and support the adoption of innovative clean energy solutions in Nagaland, contributing to sustainable development and energy security.
