Match Day 9 of the Nagaland Super League witnessed a series of thrilling encounters as teams battled for crucial points in the race for the playoffs on Wednesday. With three matches played across two venues, the competition intensified as the second leg of the league got underway.

The highly anticipated clash between league leaders Barak Football Club and Nagaland United Sports Club lived up to expectations in a high-intensity battle at Chumoukedima Football Stadium. NUSC dominated possession and created multiple chances but struggled with finishing.

Barak FC, resilient in defense, absorbed the pressure and struck in the 78th minute through Henhen to secure a 1-0 victory. Despite NUSC’s relentless attacks, Barak held firm to extend their unbeaten run. Benrithung Humtsoe, instrumental in his team’s defensive stability, was named Player of the Match. NUSC’s inability to convert opportunities proved costly, as Barak’s disciplined performance earned them a crucial three points.

At the IG Stadium in Kohima, Frontier Warriors FC and Longterok FC played out a thrilling encounter filled with momentum shifts. Longterok dominated the first half, with Assumi scoring twice in quick succession in the 24th and 26th minutes, giving his team a comfortable lead.

Frontier Warriors, however, responded with renewed determination in the second half. Mughahuto Chishi pulled one back in the 46th minute, converting a penalty rebound, before Ayenmongba equalized in the 58th with a well-timed header. Just as the match seemed headed for a draw, Longterok’s Manton delivered a spectacular long-range strike in stoppage time, securing a dramatic 3-2 victory. His match-winning goal earned him the Player of the Match award.

In the final game of the day, Red Scars FC faced Sechu Zubza FC in another high-intensity battle at Chumoukedima. Red Scars struck early with a penalty in the 3rd minute and focused on defensive organization to protect their lead. Despite Sechu Zubza’s relentless attacking efforts, they struggled to find a breakthrough. Goalkeeper Neithovilie Chalieu played a pivotal role in securing Red Scars’ first win of the season, making several crucial saves under pressure. His performance earned him the Player of the Match honor. Sechu Zubza’s inability to convert chances proved costly, while Red Scars’ disciplined performance saw them claim three much-needed points.

Following today’s results, Barak FC remains at the top of the table with 19 points and is the only unbeaten team in the league. NUSC sits in second place with 13 points, followed by Longterok FC in third with 12. Sechu Zubza is fourth with 7 points, while Red Scars, 27 United FC, and Frontier Warriors occupy the bottom three spots with 6, 5, and 4 points, respectively. With all teams having played seven matches – except 27 United, who have a game in hand – the battle for the playoff spots is heating up as the league enters a crucial phase.
