The Home Department, General Administration Branch-I, Government of Nagaland has notified that, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (iii) of Rule 8 of the Census Rules, 1990 under the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948), and in pursuance of Notification No. S.O. 99(E) dated January 7, 2026 issued by the Government of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs (Office of the Registrar General, India) and published in the Extraordinary Gazette of India (No. 89) on the same date, the Government of Nagaland has declared that the first phase of the Census of India 2027, namely the House Listing and Housing Census, will be conducted in the state from July 1 to July 30, 2026.
The option for self-enumeration will be available from June 16 to June 30, 2026.
