The State Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, has informed that the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan (PRS), formerly called the National Achievement Survey (NAS), is a national-level large-scale assessment conducted to gather information about the learning achievements of students in Classes 3, 6, and 9, studying in State Government schools, Government-aided schools, Private Unaided schools, and Central Government schools. It is a nationally representative survey that provides a system-level reflection on the effectiveness of school education.

The NAS findings help compare performance across various groups, which may serve as input for moving in the desired direction and identifying areas for remedial interventions. NAS is embedded in an extremely rich system of background variables and correlates students’ performance with contextual factors. The survey is useful for educational planners, policymakers, and researchers in understanding the interdependence of assessment, pedagogical processes, and learning outcomes.

Nagaland, along with the rest of the country, will be conducting the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan (NAS) 2024 on December 4, 2024, with a total of 1,077 sample classes covering 742 Government schools, Private Unaided schools, and Central Government schools. A total of 1,187 Field Investigators (FIs), 742 Observers, and 25,132 students will participate. The outcome of NAS will provide an indication of our state’s educational health for Grades 3, 6, and 9, and the findings will be used as one of the sources for determining the Performance Grading Index (PGI) of the State.

The duration of the survey will be 90 minutes for Classes 3 and 6, and 120 minutes for Class 9. Classes 3 and 6 will be assessed on their knowledge of Language, Mathematics, and the World Around Us, while Class 9 will be assessed on Language, Mathematics, Social Science, and Science. School Heads and Teachers of the selected sample schools will be required to be present on the day of the survey. State officials from the Directorate of School Education, SCERT, NBSE, and Samagra Shiksha, along with District-Level Coordinators, will visit the schools on December 3, 2024, to assess the school readiness preparations for the survey. Training for the Field Investigators is scheduled for December 2, 2024, and will be conducted in all 16 districts.

In view of the importance of the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan (NAS) 2024, all District Educational Officers, Field Investigators (FIs), School Heads of selected sample schools, and students are requested to ensure the success of the survey in accordance with the guidelines of the PARAKH.
