In compliance with the directive issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, the State Government of Nagaland will conduct a Civil Defence Exercise and Rehearsal across 10 districts under the operation code name ”Operation Abhyaas”.
Scheduled to take place at 4:00 PM on May 7, 2025, the mock drill will be simultaneously conducted in Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mon, Phek, Tuensang, Kiphire, and Peren districts. The exercise is intended to test the preparedness and coordination capabilities of civil defence mechanisms in the event of an emergency. Citizens are advised not to panic as this is a simulated drill.
The exercise will include simulated scenarios such as incoming air raids, activation of sirens, blackout measures, fire outbreaks in buildings, search and rescue operations, casualty evacuation from damaged structures, setting up of temporary hospitals, and evacuation of civilians to bunkers or demilitarised zones.
Hourly reports will be relayed from the State War Room to the DGCD Control Room at the MHA in New Delhi, ensuring real-time updates and coordination.
The exercise will witness the participation of District Controllers, Civil Defence Wardens and Volunteers, Home Guards (both active and reservists), as well as students and personnel from the NCC, NSS, and NYKS. According to the state authorities, the purpose of Operation Abhyaas is to evaluate operational efficacy and inter-departmental coordination in response to potential threats or disasters.
