Nagaland Tug-of-War team gears up for 37th Senior National Championships

Kohima, 21 December (MTNews): The Nagaland tug-of-war team is all set to participate in the upcoming 37th Senior National Tug-of-War Championships in Mumbai, scheduled for January 5 to 8, 2025. The event is being organized by the Tug-of-War Federation of India, which is affiliated with the Tug-of-War International Federation, South Africa.

The Nagaland team will compete in the championship under the Men’s Senior (Catch Weight) category. The strong 10-member team from Nagaland comprises Menuosetuo Yiese, Vechita Khesoh, Vemele Thingo, Sedevizo Keretsii, Vekuzo Vezuh, Heuci Kulim, Rukukhotho Khusoh, Neikhozo, Toino Awomi, and Thepukhoyi Swuro.

The players were finalized after a selection trial conducted during the last Nagaland Tribal Tug-of-War Competition, organized under the Tribal Affairs Department, Nagaland.

Speaking to media representatives, Nagaland Tug-of-War Association president Dr Er Vekho Swuro shared that the team completed its final practice session today with the jawans of the 13th Assam Rifles in Kohima. He expressed gratitude to the 13th Assam Rifles, specifically acknowledging CO Col. Tarun Rana and 2nd-in-command Major Sudeep Sharma, for providing technical assistance to the team in preparation for the championship.

Dr Er Swuro also extended his thanks to Nagaland’s Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, for sponsoring the team for the upcoming championships.

Dr Er Swuro, along with the Nagaland Tug-of-War Association general secretary, Chikhozo Sapu, will lead the team in Mumbai.
