Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, celebrated World Animal Day with the theme “Save Animals, Save Nature” on October 4. The event featured slogan-writing and poster-making competitions, attracting approximately 70 participants from various departments.


The celebration was graced by Prof. GT Thong, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, who served as the chief guest. Also in attendance were Prof. PK Pattnaik, in charge of the Animal Welfare Association (AWA), and members of the NSS Unit of the Kohima campus. Dr Rashmi, a member of the NSS Unit, chaired the event.

In his address, Prof. GT Thong emphasized the crucial role of animal welfare in maintaining ecological balance. He urged participants to embody the spirit of caring for animals in their surroundings, stating that the greatness of a nation is reflected in how it treats its animals. He also encouraged both students and faculty to practice compassion towards one another and to look after all living creatures.

Prof. PK Pattnaik welcomed the attendees, expressing gratitude to the participants and judges for contributing to the event’s success. He highlighted that love for all living beings is a noble characteristic of humanity.

Prizes for the competitions were awarded by Prof. Thong, followed by a formal vote of thanks from Dr Amitava Patra, a member of the AWA. The event was a meaningful celebration of animal welfare, fostering a sense of responsibility and compassion among the university community.
