A one-day hands-on training on value addition of sesame, along with an interaction session with farmers, was organised at the School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus on March 16.

The programme was conducted under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Sesame, funded by the ICAR Project Coordinating Unit, JNKVV, Jabalpur. It was attended by 20 women farmers from Medziphema village, Chumukedima.
The session was chaired by Dr Hillel Chishi, Guest Faculty, Department of Agronomy. Dr Debika Nongmaithem, Project In-charge and Assistant Professor, delivered the welcome address and outlined the objectives of the programme. Prof T Gohain, Head of the Department, highlighted the importance of value addition in sesame cultivation and encouraged women farmers to contribute to oilseed production in the state.
Dr Nongmaithem also spoke on market opportunities in sesame-based products and urged farmers to explore oil extraction through community initiatives. Demonstrations included preparation of sesame products such as ladoo, chikki and spiced powder.
The programme concluded with farmer interaction and input distribution, followed by a vote of thanks from Dr Lizabeni Kithan.
