Nagaland University organised a one-day online programme on “Sensitization & Implementation of NEP 2020 in HEIs” on August 27 under the aegis of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, as part of Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam 2026.
The programme was chaired by Prof P. K. Pattnaik and began with a welcome address by Prof L. Tongpang. Prof Bendang Ao, Director, Research and Development Centre, highlighted the university’s progress in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, including initiatives on the Academic Bank of Credits, SWAYAM, MOOCs, Indian Knowledge Systems, AI-related courses and collaborations with international institutions.
Prof C. B. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Vinoba Bhave University, spoke on “Implementation of NEP 2020: Role of Regulatory Frameworks for Higher Education”. He stressed the need to connect higher education with evolving skills, employment requirements and local industries. He also highlighted mother tongue education, flexible curricula, mentorship, competency-based certification, multidisciplinary learning and multiple entry and exit options.
Prof K. Srinivas, Head, ICT and Project Management Unit, NIEPA, addressed the integration of AI competencies into learner-centric and experiential learning. He urged teachers to strengthen digital, pedagogical and soft skills and effectively use AI-enabled platforms and tools.
Participants were also introduced to classroom-based AI prompts and applications in teaching, learning and research.
