The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Nagaland University, organised a “Photography Exhibition cum Competition” on the theme “Through the Lens: Capturing Moments” at I. Ihoshe Kinimi Hall on Thursday.

Nagaland University hosts Photography Exhibition-cum-Competition
Er. Yarenthung Ezung, Controller of Examinations, Nagaland University, attended as Chief Guest. Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Arjun Das, Head of the Department, highlighted the power of photography in connecting people. He said the competition brought together participants from different states, showcasing their cultures and skills, and marked the department’s first photography exhibition.

Guest speaker Subhamoy Bhattacharjee, Independent Photojournalist, Media Educator and Researcher, traced the history of photography from cave art to its contemporary forms. He stated that photography has changed the mindset of people, enabling them to explore the world with different emotions. “In today’s changing world, photography has become an important tool of communication with significant contribution both in time, life and national geography,” he said. He also noted that photography continues to evolve with science and technology, with AI posing new challenges for photographers.

Er. Ezung expressed appreciation to the department, encouraging them to make the programme an annual event. Quoting that “a picture speaks thousand of words,” he shared his delight and eagerness for future photography opportunities.

The event featured a musical duet by Deisica Snaitang and Deiphibanniewkor Babai, followed by the exhibition’s inauguration by Er. Ezung. The exhibition celebrated creativity and visual storytelling.
