The inaugural session of the 7-Day Workshop on “Advances in Research and Methodology,” organized by the Department of Zoology, Nagaland University, Lumami, got underway on March 4, 2025. The session was chaired by Dr Ramita Sougrakpam, Assistant Professor.

In his welcome address, Prof Bendang Ao, Head of the Department of Zoology, expressed gratitude to the attendees and emphasized the importance of such workshops in fostering academic growth and research excellence. Prof Ranjit Kumar, the Convenor, provided an overview of the workshop, highlighting its key objectives, which included familiarizing participants with advanced research tools, software for data analysis, and techniques for creating scientific diagrams. Prof Kumar also stressed the importance of integrating modern methodologies into research practices to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Prof MK Sinha, the Chief Guest, underscored the inevitability of advancement and development in society. Drawing parallels between traditional teaching methods, such as chalk and blackboard, and modern tools like smartboards, he emphasized the need for continuous innovation in research. Prof. Sinha highlighted the critical role of research in driving economic development and urged participants to embrace innovative ideas to contribute meaningfully to scientific progress.

Prof MS Rawat, the Guest of Honour, spoke on the significance of integrating advanced research methodologies to enhance the accuracy and interpretability of scientific data. He emphasized the importance of publishing high-quality research in reputed journals and noted that developed countries lead in this regard. Prof Rawat encouraged Indian researchers to step up their efforts to make significant contributions to the global scientific community. He also commended the Department of Zoology for organizing the workshop, as it would benefit young scholars in honing their research skills. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Khangpila Sangtam, Research Scholar.

While Priyakshi Sinha mesmerized the audience with a melodious song, Khanwang G Konyak rendered a traditional Naga song, “Zowe Keleu Eyimi,” adding a cultural touch to the session.
