The Nagaland University Students’ Union, Lumami (NUSU-L), celebrated its 26th Varsity Cultural and Literary Meet 2025 under the theme “Mosaic of Culture: Exploring Identity Through Culture and Literature”, held at I. Ihoshe Kinimi Hall.

Mr. Chumlamo Humtsoe, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Mokokchung, Nagaland, was the chief guest. In his address, Mr. Humtsoe spoke about the importance of culture and identity in today’s fast-changing world and encouraged the youth to remain rooted in their traditions while embracing progress and innovation. He emphasized that culture is not merely a reflection of the past but a living, evolving force that shapes who we are and how we connect with one another.

Asserting that “Preserving our cultural identity and traditional values is not only about holding on to customs and practices but about carrying forward the essence of who we are as a people,” Mr. Humtsoe urged students to take pride in their heritage and become ambassadors of their community’s values and wisdom. He stressed that the younger generation plays a vital role in safeguarding and transmitting this cultural legacy to future generations.

The Varsity Cultural and Literary Meet is an annual celebration that serves as a vibrant platform for students to express their creativity, talents, and intellect. This year’s event featured a diverse array of cultural performances, traditional games, literary competitions, debates, storytelling sessions, and folk songs and dances—all reflecting the rich tapestry of Naga heritage. The event aimed not only to entertain but also to educate, fostering a deeper appreciation of indigenous customs, languages, and art forms.
