The TechFusion Club of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema, organised a hands-on workshop on “Hands-on Experience with Drone Components” on September 30 at the SET building.
The workshop brought together 31 students from various departments, providing practical exposure to drone technology, electronics, embedded systems and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Participants were introduced to the components and working principles of drones through demonstrations, simulations and practical exercises. The session covered brushless drone construction, including frames, brushless motors, Electronic Speed Controllers and batteries, as well as coreless mini drones using an ESP32-based flight controller and MPU6050 accelerometer and gyroscope.
Students also learned the fundamentals of drone flight, including throttle, yaw, pitch and roll. PICA Sim was used for virtual flight practice before participants handled physical equipment.
The practical sessions included demonstrations involving ESP32 and MPU6050 systems, remote controllers, multimeters, batteries and buck converters. Participants also assembled a motor driver circuit using a MOSFET, flyback diode and resistor.
The programme was coordinated by Rishab Misra and Ravi Kumar Sah. Club Mentor Shanchamo Yanthan encouraged students to participate in such activities to develop their innovation and creativity.
