Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the new Nagaland Police Officers’ Mess at the New Police Reserve, Phesama, on Thursday, a project aimed at upgrading facilities and improving welfare for the state’s police personnel.
The new three-storied RCC building replaces the old Hill-type officers’ mess, constructed in 1981, which had served officers for over four decades. The project, built under Part-I of the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) 2023–24, cost Rs 7.02 crore and was constructed by M/S Guolhoulie Rio & Sons.
The facility includes dining, recreation, and accommodation spaces spanning a total of 17,375 square feet and meets all engineering and safety standards, including fire safety provisions.
During the program, the Nagaland Police Mess Reservation App was launched, and Pension Payment Orders (PPOs) were handed over to 39 retired police personnel, along with group term insurance benefits under the Police Salary Package.
Speaking at the event, CM Rio said the new facility is a symbol of the trust placed in the police force. “This mess is not just a building. It reflects the responsibility, discipline, and dedication expected of our officers,” he said. He urged police personnel to use the facility to foster efficiency, camaraderie, and professionalism.
Accountant General Arun Ahluwalia said the State is committed to ensuring timely pension settlements and highlighted ongoing efforts to implement a fully digital pension system.
Director General of Police Rupin Sharma said pending pension cases will be gradually cleared over the next six months, targeting 91 per cent completion. Pastor Rev. Vesotsu Rakho of the Police Union Baptist Church dedicated the building. The programme was chaired by DIGP (Planning & Modernisation) Teisovise Metha and concluded with a vote of thanks from ADGP (Administration) Renchamo Kikon.
