Urban Affairs Nagaland, Mokokchung Municipal Council attend three-day programme in New Delhi
Two representatives from Nagaland are participating in a three-day Leadership Programme for Urban Leaders being held at The Lalit in Connaught Place, New Delhi, from August 19 to 22, bringing together 25 urban leaders from 15 cities across seven states to discuss challenges and reforms in urban governance.
Assistant Director of Municipal Affairs, Nagaland, Tinuakum Longchar, and Deputy Chairman of Mokokchung Municipal Council, Lanuakum, are attending the programme as part of the Nagaland cohort, represented by the Directorate of Municipal Affairs, Nagaland, Kohima, and the Mokokchung Municipal Council.

The programme, organised by Praja Foundation, is focusing on strengthening urban leadership, improving municipal governance and building more responsive and accountable city governments.
Thursday’s sessions focused on the history and constitutional framework of urban governance in India, including the 74th Constitutional Amendment Act, challenges arising from rapid urbanisation, urban regulations and legislative frameworks. The programme will continue on Friday with discussions on the status of urban governance in India, strategic communication and knowledge forums, followed by fireside chats and networking.
The final day will focus on spatial planning for sustainable cities and decision-making for public good.
The Nagaland representatives are participating alongside officials and urban leaders from municipal corporations and institutions in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Dibrugarh, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut, Pune, Raipur, Thane and Vasai-Virar.
The programme brings together mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons, committee members, councillors, municipal officials, academicians, civil society advocates and urban practitioners. Discussions cover areas including citizen engagement, public health and sanitation, urban mobility, climate action, municipal finance, social inclusion and community development.
