Gurugram Police, in a joint operation with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), arrested a woman from Nagaland on February 16 for allegedly providing calling support to a China based cyber fraud network. The accused had installed a virtual SIM box in a rented flat to convert international VoIP calls into Indian local numbers, helping fraudsters evade detection.

“The accused was actively providing calling support for gaming/investment fraud and digital arrest scams by setting up a Virtual SIM Box in a rented house,” Gurugram Police said in an update in Hindi. “She was running the network together with her husband,” it added.

During the raid, police recovered seven mobile phones comprising three smartphones, along with three SIM cards, a WiFi modem and a laptop. Three phones were found in auto dial mode, sequentially calling Indian numbers. The screens displayed a “VDMS Apk App,” indicating automated operations.

The woman was identified as Kung Panmae, 30, a native of Dimapur in Nagaland, residing in Sector 28, Gurugram. During interrogation, she said she and her husband had set up the system for China based cyber fraudsters. Her role was to keep the phones charged and connected to the internet, while her husband allegedly received commission.

Police said the network facilitated digital arrest scams, online gaming fraud and investment fraud. The system converted international calls into local ones, making it difficult to trace origins. Acting on intelligence received on February 10, a cyber police team coordinated with I4C and apprehended her. Efforts are ongoing to trace her absconding husband and analyse seized devices for call data, IP logs and financial trails.
