The Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) has expressed profound shock, anguigh and strongest condemnation over the racially charged assault and harassment of a female doctor from Nagaland working at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
In a statement, the commission said, “This is not merely a criminal incident; it is a shameful reflection of the recurring, systematic racism that individuals from the North-East continue to face in other parts of the country.” It added that such acts of hate near a premier national institution “violate the basic safety and dignity of healthcare professionals” and are deeply disturbing.
While acknowledging the initial arrest, the NSCW demanded immediate and exemplary punishment for all the perpetrators involved. “We demand that all individuals involved in this heinous act are tracked down and brought to justice immediately,” it added.
