Nagaland wrestler Dawhuo throws his way to discus gold at Northeast Games

Kohima, 19 March (MTNews): Nagaland wrestling champion Venuzo Dawhuo emerged victorious in the discus throw event at the Northeast Games 2024 held at the IG Stadium in Kohima on Tuesday with an impressive throw of 44.42 meters. His closest competitor, securing the silver medal, hailed from Assam.

This impressive feat marks a significant improvement for Dawhuo, whose previous record stood at 35.53 meters achieved at the 2nd Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2022. He had also won the discus throw event at the very first Nagaland Olympics in 2017 with a throw of 38.00 meters.

Dawhuo will be back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, as the defending champion in the shot put competition at the Northeast Games. With his newfound discus throwing prowess, all eyes will be on Dawhuo to see if he can add another gold medal to his tally and the state’s.
