In his address, NWA General Secretary Akhozo emphasized the pivotal role of the affiliated district associations, calling them the “backbone and foundation” of the sport in the state. He urged districts to work collectively in identifying and nurturing young talent, stressing that grassroots development is essential for producing professional athletes.

Highlighting the recognition of Wushu by both the Indian Olympic Association and the Government of Nagaland, Akhozo reminded members that the state government has been extending support to promote sports and games in Nagaland. He encouraged members to actively contribute to the growth of the discipline, ensuring consistent medal-winning performances at the national level. Akhozo further challenged the association to set long-term targets, including preparing athletes for the 2036 Olympic Games, where India is expected to bid for hosting rights.

During the meeting, the house resolved to organize the Nagaland Wushu Championship (Sanda event) from October 21 to 23, featuring senior, junior, and sub-junior categories. The AGM also acknowledged a judges’ seminar and technical training programme, currently underway, conducted by NIS-certified coach Gabriel Khamo to strengthen officiating standards and enhance technical expertise.

The AGM was attended by representatives from various affiliated district associations, who reiterated their commitment to elevating Wushu in Nagaland. Participants emphasized strategic planning, talent development, and technical excellence as key priorities to ensure the sport’s growth and prominence in the state.
