Chümoukedima, 20 March (MTNews): The Nagaland Wushu team concluded the Wushu competition of the 3rd North East Games 2024 with eight medals (one gold, three silver, and four bronze), with Yoto Chizo winning the only gold in the 75 kg event for Nagaland.
The Wushu team has improved upon their previous medal tally, having won six bronze medals in the 2nd edition but performing much better in the 3rd edition, aided by the advantage of the home crowd at Chümoukedima district.
The two-day Wushu competition was held as part of the NE Games 2024 at the Sovima Futsal ground, featuring a total of 58 players from different states of the Northeast.
Vipu Zhimomi, Nupa Kiho, and Kekhrieneitso Angami had to settle for silver medals after losing in the final round. However, Yoto Chizo’s victory over Sanjenbam Rohit Meitei from Manipur in the final match sparked much cheer and celebration, as both Nupa Kiho and Kekhrieneitso Angami lost to their Manipur counterparts in their respective finals. Akivito Yeptho, Geeta Narjinary, Kivikali Magh, and Lipokjongshi Imchen settled for bronze medals.
Manipur put up an impressive performance, securing 6 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals, totaling 10 medals to top the table tally. Assam followed in second place with two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals, while Nagaland secured 3rd position with its 8 medals from the Wushu competition held as part of the North East Games 2024.
