A review meeting for the Pradhan Mantri Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) was held at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, under the chairmanship of the Union Secretary for Fisheries, Government of India.

In the meeting, Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary for Law & Justice and Fisheries & Aquatic Resources in Nagaland, highlighted that only about 12% of Nagaland’s potential area has been utilized for fisheries development and urged the need for additional areas to be made available for growth.

During the meeting, Kikheto proposed several components to be included in the new guidelines for PMMSY, which will extend over the next five years. These suggestions included the integration of cluster fish farming with other agricultural activities such as frog, crab, snail, and poultry farming, as well as infrastructure support like pack houses and feed mills specifically for North-Eastern States, particularly Nagaland. He also recommended promoting fisheries eco-tourism, providing hands-on training and exposure for farmers and entrepreneurs, funding for quality fish markets and recreational fisheries, revising cost norms, reducing farmers’ contributions, and incorporating the renovation of old ponds and tanks.

Union Secretary Dr Abhilaksh Likhi assured that these suggestions would be considered favorably. Kikheto was accompanied by the Director, Rongsennungba, and Deputy Director, Dr. Rongsenkumzuk, during the meeting.
