Exciting news for football fans in Nagaland! The much-anticipated Nagaland Super League (NSL) is set to kick off its inaugural season this year, creating a competitive platform for local footballers and spotlighting the state’s vibrant football culture. The announcement was made by the NSL’s Governing Body during a meeting chaired by Neibu Sekhose, president of the Nagaland Football Association (NFA) and executive member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF). With plans to feature eight franchise teams, the league promises to be a major step forward in promoting the sport across the state.
The meeting, which discussed the framework and launch of NSL, decided that the first edition of the NSL will feature eight franchise teams, which will compete over the course of the season.
The governing body also resolved to call for Letters of Interest and to release advertisements inviting potential franchise owners to participate. The criteria for franchise ownership would be clearly outlined and would soon be released for public consumption, it was informed. Further, it said that the governing body also formed several committees to oversee the smooth operation of the league, ensuring that all logistical, technical and promotional aspects are efficiently managed.
With nine members present, the meeting reaffirmed the association’s dedication to promoting football excellence in Nagaland. The NSL said it aims to create a competitive platform for local footballers, fostering growth in the sport while also drawing attention to the rich football culture within the state.
The Nagaland Football Association has appealed to the sports lovers, football enthusiasts and capable patrons to explore possibilities of owning franchises.
“It will not only be an opportunity to own sports brand but will become a journey where one can make contributions in the development of sports, growth of club culture, creation of opportunities for our youth to excel and make Nagaland shine at the National and International levels,” NSL said.
The meeting was held following the announcement by Nagaland Chief Minister Niephiu Rio to establish a professional football league in the state during the inauguration of the 23rd Dr T Ao Inter-District Championships Trophy in Tuensang on September 17.
Sekhose extended the gratitude to the chief minister and the state government for their continued support in bringing this vision to life.
“We are committed to creating a platform that will elevate football in Nagaland and provide a stage for our local talent to shine on a national and international level,” Sekhose said.
