Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announced on Saturday that the state had collected approximately Rs 1,064 crore in Goods and Services Tax (GST) during the fiscal year 2023-24. He further revealed that over 10,000 residents of Nagaland had registered themselves to pay GST.

Rio made these remarks during the grand opening of Shoppers Stop, a prominent omnichannel store for fashion, beauty, and gifting, located at Khermahal police point in Dimapur, Nagaland.

Highlighting Nagaland’s revenue challenges, Rio noted that the state traditionally generates only about Rs 100 crore annually due to its status as a consumer state rather than a manufacturing hub. However, he emphasized that GST has brought about significant changes, predicting that the state’s GST revenue could potentially double in the future with the entry of major companies like Shoppers Stop.
