Tinsukia (Assam), February 17 (MTNews): Vanguard FC were beaten on penalties 1-2 as Assam Rifles Sentinels XI rode on their luck to beat the Nagaland team in the second round of the 18th Captain Jintu Gogoi Vir Chakra Memorial Football Tournament 2023 at TDSA Stadium, Tinsukia, Assam on Friday.

According to SportsLive Nagaland, both teams failed to break through in an evenly poised match. It was reported that the match ended in a goalless draw.

A penalty shootout decided the winner. However, luck was not with the Nagaland team as Vanguard ended the campaign as they went down 1-2 on penalties. The ongoing tournament is an invitational tournament organized by the Indian Army and OIL in honor of Kargil War hero Captain Jintu Gogoi.

“Despite the defeat, Ating Tingnyek Konyak the coach of the team has surely gained his experience at the national level and will be ready to take more responsibilities in the future,” SportsLive Nagaland reported.
